to this!
In just two years! I remember talking to Matthew about being patient, and asking how long it would take, and finding it hard to believe we would ever have a lawn. And now we do, and it makes me so happy. And it gives me lots of extra hope for the trees. Here they were a year ago, I can't even see the tree in this picture. They were tiny.
And here are the trees...
and the lilacs this year. The lilacs started out even smaller than the trees, and look how robust they are now!
Someday I'll look out and feel this way about our windbreak, and our shade trees, and our flowers and our patio (future goals)
And because I really don't have many hobbies... I planted a garden today. It's not very big, just a zucchini, yellow squash, cantaloupe, and two tomatoes. I'd like to be a big gardener, but I'm not sure I'm cut out for it. I'll start with this teensy plot, and we'll see what happens.

because you don't have many hobbies? yes, that's how i would describe you. betsy, the poor hobby-less biddy. It's nice to see you finally branching out, and becoming more domestic. It's about time.
Wow, very nice! The trees will get there. My Uncle's wife, Joy, and her sister planted hundreds of tiny trees on their property at Antietam years ago. It was pasture land, but now it is a beautiful forested area - it's hard to imagine it was ever pasture.
Sus-thanks. you make me laugh.
Jenny-really? A forest? How many years ago? I know someday my house won't be buffeted by 30 mph winds, but it's hard to imagine.
Yes it blew my mind when Jenny's aunt told us that it had been pasture land and they planted I think 1600 trees. It is one of those things where it is hard to imagine that it had not always been forest.
Your trees, grass and lilacs look very nice. We had 13 kids play in our yard last Friday night and now I am worried about our grass. I don't think it was ready for the small electric hummer laden with 4 or 5 kids.
