Teeny Spruce

Last year we got a little teeny live Christmas Tree, and then in the Spring we planted him outside. I thought, since he's a Christmas Tree, he ought to be decorated. We used twist ties to attach everything, we'll see how long it lasts.

Accidental Gardening

We have a hole in the back yard from when they put the water line in to the house (which always brings to mind Matthew's explanation of the plot problems in The Lovely Bones, but that's another story) and I always just throw weeds and other organic stuff into the hole, figuring that someday it'll all become dirt and fill it in.

This fall I noticed something green growing out of the hole, and found a nice little surprise pumpkin. I think I must have tossed the teeny decorative pumpkins in there once we were done with them last year.

It's just the right size to go with my teeny pilgrims!

My ridiculous garden

I'm not a great gardener. I get better every year, but that's not saying much. I narrowed part of the problem down to the double whammy of our cabin vacation and school starting, which happen right together and take me out of commision for awhile. By the time I get back out to my garden, it looks like this:

A crazy overgrown mess, but it is producing a lot of tomatoes. It might be also producing other things, but the tomatoes are red, so I can find them. I picked over a dozen the other day. I'm going to try my hand at canning, we'll see how that goes. Thankfully Sarah posted a tutorial.

I had the idea to grow cucumbers in a tomato cage this year, to try and keep them contained. Marion smiled at me when I explained it. He was right, it didn't work. My one cucumber is growing all over the place, and mixing in with the tomatoes that are near it. I've never seen anything like this in anyone else's garden.

There's also something funny going on with the lilacs. They sprouted these funny seed-like things a few months ago... Now they're turning brown.

Is this a problem?
