Spanish in the U.S.

This semester I'm taking Spanish in the U.S., a Spanish class focusing on the way Spanish is spoken here in the United States, and the influences and special considerations of the language here. I think it's really interesting and pretty fun so far.

One of the components is "service-learning", so I'm going to be doing some interpreting and working with Russell Child Development on some home visits and other things. It'll be good for me to talk to adults for a change.

The amazing thing I realized tonight is that this is my 6th class, I'll have 5 more after this. So I'm almost at the halfway point! I feel simultaneously excited and sad.

Maybe if I get too bored when I'm done, I can just find an online doctoral program. ;)

Here's a question though--I really really don't want to take a semester off, but I am having this baby next semester. So-how crazy would it be to keep going to school? Keep in mind, I will have all that time off of work...

Awaiting your opinions!

You won't want to spend all your time off work working on a class. Can you just take less classes rather than skip a whole semester? Whatever you decide...it will work out, but consider giving yourself lots of time to adjust to the new family dynamic that Tummy will bring. Again, SO happy for you! Babies are such miracles.

Don't do it. A semester off is nothing in the big scheme of things. I did school while I was pregnant with Phinn and then when he was tiny and it was tough. I wouldn't do it again. And I can't imagine having two at the time to take care of,

Don't do it. A semester off is nothing. You're already used to your routine of school + work + family, so when you get a big chunk of free time without work, you'll be all out of sync with your schedule and it will be dreadful. Plus, once you get used to the new schedule, it will be all disturbed again when you go back to work. Give yourself the break.

I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes. I like to just sit around and gaze at the new baby and not worry about anything else. And even though Anna is a big girl, taking care of two will be so different.

Grrr...all of you are giving the "wrong" answer. :) It's just one class! *pout* Hmph. I'll think about it.

Finally! Matthew's mom says I should go ahead and take a class. :) I'll still think about it, but it sure was nice to find someone to agree with me. :)

Well, this is what I was going to say prior to reading the last 2 comments: I wouldn't do it, because I get overwhelmed fairly easily. I took the quarter off when Joe and I got married and it was a GOOD thing. Plus, since you're a little sad about being done, taking a semester off would stretch out your program a little bit. BUT, I know you and how you like to always be going, going, going, so I don't think it would be awful if you took a class. But, if you did take a semester off and felt like you had a lot of time, you could get a lot of crafting done! :)
