AA

Hello, my name is Betsy, I live in the country, and I have a problem with Ants.

I know, it's just a part of living out here.

And I know, it's not that big of a deal.

But I am SICK of ants! Last summer, the first time we found them, I cried. I thought it meant I was a terrible housekeeper and a bad person. Now I know that ants are a part of life in the country, they can get in anywhere and they will eat anything. I've found them in my bed, on a trail to the snotty hanky under my pillow. In the mudroom, carrying back BITS OF DIRT! There is plenty of dirt outside, why don't they eat that? And of course, on the kitchen floor and on the floor by Anna's highchair, the obvious places. I'm tired of following the trail and spraying just a teensy bit of Ant Raid on the entrance spot, and then worrying about poisoning our little family. I'm tired of staring maniacally at the floor looking for moving dots. I'm tired of cleaning up ants and then feeling like I have them crawling all over me for the next hour. I'm tired of stumbling across a new path and literally getting ants in my pants.

I love living in the country, and I love creation. I can even admire them sometimes. How do they do it? I found them a few nights ago coming in by the doorway that separates the mudroom from the rest of the house. In the middle of the house! They were not in the mudroom, just coming out the floor by the door to it. It's impressive, but I still want them all dead.

Eeeeeewww.... I feel so creepy crawly all over.

You, Ants. Katrina, Spiders. I had a couple of nice sized spiders in my Chadron bathroom the last weekend I was there. I got along with them, but Katrina would just as soon have them be squished! I suppose I shall learn to be a bug-vanquisher in the intrest of keeping the heebie-jeebies at a minimum!

Umm...yes! People get married for a lot of romantic and silly reasons, but when all of that melts into reality, you want to at least have someone to squish things for you.

You can call me Kentolla said...

I prefer to look at the ants as my own personal housekeeping service. Think about it this way. Every granule of dirt or crumb that they remove is one that you don't have to clean. I appreciate their industriousness and the fact that they are making my job, just a little bit easier...

Also, if you need it there's that ant stuff that you sprinkle around the perimeter of your house and it keeps them out. I have heard that it works wonders...

Oh I know what you are going through blessed soul. I had that same problem with those little sugar ants in both of my houses and then my father in law (the pest control man of GC) showed me these little plastic huts to use. Sprays never worked for me. They have bait in them and the ants pick up the bait and take it back to their tribe and feed it to the queen. She eats it and dies, and without her it's only a matter of days until they all die with her. It's wonderful stuff. You would just need to put it where ever you know the ants are getting in. If you can keep Anna away from them until they do their job and then throw them away problem will be solved. I used them at the beginning of summer and haven't had ants since. If you can't find them at the store call John Bilberry. He can tell you what they are exactly. Ours are stashed away in the garage somewhere and we are about to leave town. Good luck!

OK, we got some stuff to sprinkle around the perimeter of the house that claims bait the ants and that they will carry it back and kill the queen. We'll see.

At least you don't have a "spider cricket" problem.. image google that and be thankful they aren't lurking around corners ready to jump you.
