Personality Shift

Didn't we all take the personality tests in High School? I was always an ESFJ.

For my homework a couple of weeks ago, we had to take a couple of personality profiles and analyze them in light of language teaching and learning.

I was surprised to find that both tests now call me an ISTJ.

I thought personality was supposed to be a constant. I like my old description better. She sounds like a lot more fun.

Here are the two tests we took.

Keirsey.com

Humanmetrics.com

Anyone else change?

I took one in Spring of 2005 and I was a guardian. I'm the same now. I didn't go in for the more advanced test.

I'm still an INFP/ Idealist... making me a healer. But I didn't pay for the detailed report on what a healer is.

Betsy, this is really, really weird. Heath and I were just talking about the Myers-Briggs personality test the last two evenings, and I was going to blog about it today. I was going to say how the description of the INFP (which is the test result I get) is so right on for me in many areas. In college, I think I was still trying to decide who I wanted to be, and I would fluctuate between INFP and one other when I took the test - can't remember what the other one was now. Now I'm pretty firmly settled as INFP. But I did read that our personality can evolve throughout our lives and we can move between the letters.

When Heath and I were reading the descriptions together, there was actually one where we said, "That is Betsy!" I'll have to look back now and see which one it was.

I looked at the descriptions again, and it was the ESTJ that Heath and I thought was you. I can see how the ESFJ would describe you, too, except it said that person "has a strong need to be liked...insecure...overly sensitive," and I always thought of you as someone who was pretty confident and secure, not worried about what others thought of you.

Maybe as you have "grown up" you became more secure and confident, so you moved from ESFJ to ESTJ. I don't know about the move from Extrovert to Introvert though. Maybe it's just where you are at in life right now. (Maybe these are all baseless speculations and I'm just rambling. Please take my opinions with a grain of salt.)

I'm also INFP and always have been, though I'm fairly even on F/T.

So, I this morning I took the test on Keirsy.com and it had me in the guardian category. This afternoon I took the test on Humanmetrics.com and I'm an INFJ. When I read the descriptions of the INFJ and the options for guardians I agree more with the INFJ label. Who knows...is it possible for personality to change throughout the day? ;)

I decided that my shift was due to grief. Of course I'm pulled into myself more now, and I can't be a feeler, if I were reacting to the world via my feelings, I'd be a mess. For now, I have to be a thinker. I'm hoping I'll get back to myself someday, but if not, I guess that'll be OK too.

Even though I don't like that description at all-she sounds cold, bossy, busy, boring.

ISTJ doesn't look bad at all, and it's still in the same general category. And it's not bossing, it's guiding...
I was Introverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving (INTP), an Architect Rational, and when I read it the description was right on.
Thanks for the distraction!

Oh, and I just figured out I was 1% from INFP, which was also pretty right on. I think I'd rather be in the healer category, they sound much nicer.

Remember my freshman year of college when I had that pink t-shirt that I wore all the time with everyone's Myers-Briggs type? Back then I was an ENTJ. I just took it today and now I'm an ISFP/Artisan. Completely opposite.

I am an ISTJ with you Betsy...am surprised we would come out the same...I fluctuate between the S and the N. It is all so very interesting.

One said guardian. The other INTJ. Its interesting until you try to imagine the psycho-analytical types who wrote the tests.

Well, if Mllr is an ISTJ, then it must be a nice personality after all, because I sure like her. :)

the feeling is mutual.
