First we stopped for some coffee, but that was kind of a flop (she gave us straight coffee instead of cafe au lait, but we didn't figure it out in time), so then we stopped again for coffee and got it right. We had some pizza at Wild River in Grant's Pass, and then I talked Matthew into wandering around the downtown for a few minutes with me. There were nice little shops and it was a pretty afternoon.
Then we drove to Brookings. Driving in Oregon is very different than driving in Kansas. All of the roads are twisty and there are all of these trees and lots of traffic and mountains. I think I'd rather drive 5 hours in Kansas than 2 in Oregon, and I wasn't even driving.
In Brookings we stayed at the "By the Sea" B&B, right on the beach. I wanted to be able to hear the ocean while I went to sleep and have a cup of coffee outside in the morning and look at the ocean. It was perfect.
The tide was coming in, nice, crashy, sometimes angry waves. I love the ocean.
We had dinner at O's, recommended by the owners of the B&B. It was tasty. Then we grabbed a quick bottle of sparkly wine from the little grocery store (another thing to love about Oregon, cold wine at the grocery), and watched the sun set over the rocks and water, snuggled up under a crocheted blanket that was in the room's closet. It was just lovely.
